New Bedford - Antonio E. S. Viegas, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at home . He was the husband of Alvarina Viegas, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 6th, 2005. Beloved father of Jose L. and his wife Fernanda D. Viegas, Aira M. Viegas and Goretti V. and her husband Nelson Conchinha all of New Bedford, and Maria Leonor Gois and her husaband Manuel Silveira of St Jorge, Azores. Loved grandfather of Daniel D. and his wife Jessica Viegas, David D. Viegas, Devin D. Viegas and Kayla A. Conchinha all of New Bedford, Jorge and his wife Fatima Silveira and Luis and his wife Christine Silveira all of St. Jorge, Azores, Kevin V. Conchinha of Fairhaven, and P.F.C. Shawn V. Conchinha presently serving in Iraq, Great grandfather of Dominic D. Viegas of New Bedford, Cameron J. Conchinha of Dartmouth, Mauro Silveira, Rodrigo Silveira, Leandro Silveira and Felipe Silveira all of St. Jorge, Azores. And several Nieces and Nephews.
Mr. Viegas was born in Velas, St. Jorge, Azores, Portugal and moved to New Bedford in 1971 at the age of 50. He was a son of the late Idalina (DeSousa) and Jose DeSousa Veigas. He worked at Carol Cables until his retirement in 1986, He was also a whaler and a tuna fisherman an the Island of St. Jorge. Mr Veigas loved recreational fishing and also spending time with his family.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 9 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 P.M., on Friday February 17, 2005 at the Perry Funeral Home.
