Madeleine Selivan Magee, age 91, of Winchester, passed away peacefully at the Winchester Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on May 2, 2020.
Born in Hollywood, CA, Madeleine was the only child of the late Victor and Marika (de Kerekjarto) Selivan. She graduated from high school in Redwood City, CA, where she made lifelong friends.
When work as a graphic artist took her to San Francisco, she met Hugh Magee through mutual friends and they were married in 1953, making their home in Marin county. Together they raised their sons John, Bill and Tom, who were the enduring pride of her life.
A lover of the outdoors and of fine art, Madeleine was an accomplished artist with a keen aesthetic eye. She lived in many states in her beloved West, settling in her later years in Mystic, CT, and then Winchester, MA, where she was closer to family. Wherever she lived, she made a beautiful and welcoming home and enjoyed a rich circle of friends, fellow artists and Unitarians.
Madeleine is lovingly survived by her children: John Magee and his wife Sanjukta Roy of Toronto, Canada; William Magee of Sacramento, CA; and Thomas Magee and his wife Isobel of Winchester. She was the loving and cherished grandma of Sanjana, Helena, Benjamin and Beatrice Magee. She also leaves behind her cousins Jackie Turney and Patty McMillan of California, her sister-in-law Laurin Magee of The Villages, FL, and her former husband Jack Smith and his daughters Nanci and Shelley.
In light of the precautions with COVID-19, a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Madeleine’s memory may be made to one of the following: Winchester Unitarian Society, Winchester, MA; All Souls Unitarian Universalist Congregation, New London, CT; Woburn Council of Social Concern Food Bank, Woburn, MA; or to any local Unitarian congregation or food bank.
