SPRINGFIELD – Tula Nickolaides, 99, of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, April 30, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Heritage Hall East in Agawam surrounded by her loving caregivers. She was born in Springfield on September 15, 1920, a beloved daughter of the late John N. and Harriet (Pappas) Nickolaides. She was raised in Springfield graduated from the former Trade High School where she received a Certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She previously worked at the Springfield Hospital and also at the Heritage Hall Nursing Homes in Agawam. Tula enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Hospital Apprentice First Class and later Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class. She was stationed at the US Naval Hospital in Saint Albans, NY and later at the US Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD. She was a member of the Springfield Hobby Club and enjoyed crocheting and furniture refinishing. She leaves her loving sister, Jo-Ann Karas of Springfield; and several cherished nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving siblings, Nicholas Nickolaides, Dena Nickolaides, Bess Georgantas and Harriet DelNegro. Her family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall East A Wing in Agawam for their compassion, concern and excellent care that they provided to Tula. A private funeral service will be held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral with a private burial at Oak Grove Cemetery both in Springfield. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
