Obituary

Carol A. (Sisson) Motta, 73, of Tiverton, passed away in her home, Monday April 27, 2020.

Carol was raised in Westport, the daughter of the late Harold J. Sisson Sr. and Alice May (Allen) LaBerge. She had very fond memories of spending her childhood on her grandparent’s farm, the late David and Alice May (Brightman) Allen, her grandmother’s cooking, dancing in the barn and riding her horse, Suntan. In 1964, Carol met and married her beloved husband of 56 years, Raymond D. Motta, and the two settled in Tiverton.

Before her retirement, Carol worked as a respiratory therapist at St. Luke’s hospital in New Bedford, MA for over 40 years. A very hard worker and straight shooter, Carol became a role model and mentor to not only her daughter, but also several other young women in her life.

Carol was very thoughtful, sending notes, thank yous and even wrapping extra gifts, in case unexpected friends dropped by over the holidays. She did not have a mean bone in her body, but if you did upset her, she would certainly let you know. She was sometimes known to hold a grudge, but a more faithful friend you could never find.

Carol especially loved to travel with her daughter. An adventurous streak, rather than booking hotels she’d sometimes say “Let’s wing it!”. She drove the Pacific Coast Highway in a red convertible, basked on the beaches of the Caribbean, had mussels in Brussels, visited coffee shops in Amsterdam, tried whale in Iceland and ate her way through Italy. A big fan of all that’s Tex-Mex, Carol went to Albuquerque in November for enchiladas with red and green chile.

Carol was a terrific baker and a past matron of The Eastern Star. She loved turquoise jewelry, watching tv criminal dramas and cooking shows. She was country when country wasn’t cool, always dressed to impress, faithful to a fault, a supportive mother, loving wife and a remarkable woman. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Raymond include: her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter; Kimberly, Tom and Lydia Buonopane; her mother Alice May LaBerge and her sisters: Faye Roies and Alice M. Sisson, allof Westport. She was the sister of the late Harold J. (Jack) Sisson Jr.

Arrangements are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, D.C. 20090-6929.
