Hubert E. Barker, 91, formerly of Salem, NH died Tuesday April 28, 2020 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, Derry. Mr. Barker was born in Stoneham, ME on January 6, 1929, a son of the late Carlton and Ineze (Matheson) Barker. He was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office. Mr. Barker was a US Army veteran.
For many years Hubert was an active participant in the harness racing community at Rockingham Park in Salem as a driver and trainer and providing dentistry services. He also served as president of the Western New England Harness Horsemen’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Esther (Collins) Barker of Derry, one brother, Durland Barker of Stoneham, ME, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Donald M. Barker in 1993, his sister, Euleita, his two brothers, Carlton Barker, Jr., and Dighton Barker.
Following cremation, graveside services will be held in the Hillside Cemetery, Stoneham, ME. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
