Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY – George A. Desgres, 94, of South Hadley, passed away peacefully at his beloved home on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, surrounded by all the memories that he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on December 31, 1925, a beloved son of the late Ulderic and Marie (Lecuyer) Desgres. He was raised in Holyoke, later lived in Chicopee and moved to South Hadley in 2011. He served his country in the American Theatre during World War II in the United States Marine Corps, attained the rank of Corporal, and received the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed as a Construction Supervisor for Associated Builders in South Hadley. He previously owned the Aristocrat Stylist in Agawam and Amherst. He was a member of the Moose Family Center in Chicopee Falls. He was a vendor at many swap meets throughout the Northeast. Above all, George loved spending time with his family and his many friends including his buddies at the Pic’s Pub in Holyoke. George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Arlene E. (Rodgers) Desgres who passed away on February 3, 1990. He leaves his devoted companion of many years, Mary Coleman of South Hadley; his loving daughter and son-in-law, Penny M. Goodman and her husband, Norman Desmarais, of Chicopee; his loving son, Gary G. Desgres of Charlemont; his cherished granddaughter, April N. Belczyk and her husband, Cory; his dear brother, Richard Desgres and his wife, Rosemary, of Holyoke; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members and friends. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Judy A. Desgres-Cote who passed away on November 14, 2018. A Committal Service with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
