CHICOPEE – Real L. Cayer, 75, of Chicopee passed into Eternal Life on Thursday, April 23, 2020. He was of the Roman Catholic Religion and was loved and cherished by all that knew him. He was born in Saint Barthelemy, Province of Quebec, Canada on May 7, 1944, a beloved son of the late Joseph and Donalda (Lareau) Cayer. He moved to Holyoke with his family at the age of six and attended Holyoke schools. He had lived in Holyoke most of his life and later moved to South Yarmouth for 20 years, where he enjoyed spending time at the ocean before returning to Western Massachusetts. He was employed as a Heat Treat and an Instrument Technician at Acme Chain in Holyoke. He was a Master Mason for many years and was active with the Howard Lodge AF & AM in South Yarmouth. He previously spent many years at the Mount Holyoke Masonic Lodge in South Hadley, and was involved with many charities. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also had a passion for cooking and tending to his gardens. He spent time oil painting, doing carpentry projects and decorating cakes. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves his loving and beloved wife of 56 years and best friend, Nancy M. (Sawyer) Cayer; his three loving children, Steven A. Cayer and his wife, Melinda of Granby, Lisa M. Cayer Labanino and her husband, Israel, of Kingsville,TX., and David W. Cayer of Holyoke; his six cherished grandchildren, Ryan Cayer, Justin Cayer and Adam Cayer, Nicholas Labanino, Samantha Cayer and her husband, Jonathan, and Matthew Cayer; his two cherished great-grandchildren, Audrina Cayer and Dawson Roushia; his dear sister, Rita Petersen of West Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Cayer and Sawyer families. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two dear brothers, Roland Cayer and Norman Cayer; and his three dear sisters, Denise Cayer, Yvette Matlock and Claire Hercenberg. His services include a small family gathering on a later date. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
