Obituary

CHICOPEE – Lorraine A. “Lori” (Smart) Cascella, 96, of Hadley and a former longtime resident of Montgomery Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, April 27, 2020. She passed into Eternal Life at Elaine Center at Hadley surrounded by all of the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born at home on Walter Street in Chicopee on October 2, 1923, the beloved daughter of the late Vallancourt “Edward” Smart and the late Leona (Bessette) Smart Paul. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Mount Carmel Grammar School and Chicopee High School, both in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She furthered her education and graduated from the Holyoke Business School. She was employed as an Executive Secretary at the Scott Paper Company in South Hadley until it’s closing and previously had worked at the Monarch Life Insurance Company in Springfield. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee and was a longtime volunteer at the Chicopee Senior Center. During her leisure time, she enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing, traveling and golfing. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Thomas D. Cascella who was Called Home on July 7, 2008. She leaves her two loving sons, Gary W. Donicz and his wife, Andrea, of Granby and Charles E. Cascella of Calimesa, CA; her many cherished grandchildren including her granddaughter, Nycole Donicz; and her many cherished great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, extended family members and friends. Her funeral services will be private and her burial will be private at Sainte Rose Cemetery in Chicopee. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
