Mary Ursula Lozano Tompkins of Ventura, California passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving children on April 20th, 2020 at the age of 95 years. She was born on October 21st, 1924 to Roman and Andrea Villegas Garcia from Jalisco, Mexico. Her birthplace was Ventura, California and she grew up in the neighborhood historically known as Tortilla Flats. Mary was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Joseph “Lencho” Garcia, Felipa Guevara, Eleanor Garcia, Jesse Garcia, Tony Garcia, Allen Garcia, Magdalene “Maggie” Romero, and Rachel Crow. Mary is survived by her younger sister, Gloria Garcia.
Mary was the wife and widow of Modesto Lozano. She is survived by her family, Diana and her husband John Erickson; Rosemary and her husband Steve Weber; Amanda and her husband Arnold Aviles; Mark Lozano; Andrea and her husband Alex Karagianes. She also had an abundance of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Later in life, Mary was the wife and widow of Ralph Tompkins of Ventura, California.
Mary was not only a mother to her own five children but was a surrogate mother to her younger brothers and sisters when she was just a child herself. Her family was always in her thoughts and prayers.
Our mother was a wonderful cook and known for her homemade tortillas. She had an unpredictable sense of humor and loved to listen to her music and always sang along. Mom had a warm and loving spirit. She had a natural graciousness and gave freely of her time and friendship to everyone around her. She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
Our mother was deeply religious and spiritual. We are content in the knowledge that our mother has joined her many loved ones in heaven. May God bless you and receive you. Your loving children, Diana, Rosemary, Amanda, Mark, and Andrea.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, one may make a donation to the Catholic Charities of Ventura County or your local food bank.
