Phyllis C. (McKenzie) Efstratiou passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19th at the Aberjona Nursing Center of Winchester. She was 85. Born and raised in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Viola (Colton) McKenzie.
A Saugus resident for over 40 years, Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She and her husband James, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage, raised their children in Somerville before settling in Saugus. Phyllis enjoyed many years of work at Tufts University where she was an administrative assistant in the Development Office. She was a long-time member of Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church and was past president of the parish Women’s Benevolent Society. In Mattapoisett, where she and Jim have a summer home, Phyllis was active in the local summer resident group. She was devoted to her family and was a dear friend to many. As a wife, mother and grandmother her love and devotion was unbounded. Her memory will be cherished forever.
The beloved wife of James Efstratiou, she was a loving mother to Sandra Efstratiou of Lynnfield, Diane DiCocco and her husband Ricardo of Virginia, and Mark Efstratiou and his wife Kathleen of Billerica. She was a devoted grandmother to Joseph, Alexandra and Ariana DiCocco and Alex, Matthew, Kaylie and Alexis Efstratiou.
Funeral services will be held privately.
