Obituary

Elder Jimmy Chapman, 77, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Monday, April 20, 2020, at his residence.

Private graveside services will be held.

Elder Chapman was born December 18, 1942, in Albany, Georgia, to the late Henry Marvin & Alma Chestnutt Chapman. He was a 1962 graduate of Worth County High School and received his Associates degree from Birdwood College in Thomasville. Elder Chapman owned and operated a sales firm, C.I. International. He was a Primitive Baptist Elder who served congregations at Hickory Springs Church in Tift County, Glazener Church in Decatur, Ocilla Church in Ocilla, Boston Church in Boston, Henderson Chapel Church in Irwin County and Ephesus Church in Sumner. Elder Chapman never met a stranger and enjoyed having conversations. He loved being outdoors and cutting grass. He was a member of Ephesus Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Carmichael Chapman of Irwin County; daughter, Lisa Chapman Crosby & Tony of Columbus and Sherry Chapman of Melrose, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Tracey Branam Cox of Ocilla; grandchildren: Nicholas Crosby, Natalie Crosby, Nelson Cox, Austin Cox & Sierra and Cameron Cox; great-grandchildren: Jacey Rae Hall and Michael Timothy Cox, II; his siblings: Ronald E. Chapman & Sharon of Sylvester, Wanda Tyson of Tifton, David Chapman & Ingrid of Long Beach, California and Leland Chapman & Denise of Sylvester and his fur baby, Lady Bella. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a son, Tim Cox and a granddaughter, Julieann Michelle Cox.
