CHICOPEE – Francis M. “Fran” Foley, 84, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, April 17, 2020. He was a resident at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke and passed away tragically from the COVID-19 virus at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on October 16, 1935, a beloved son of the late Michael J. and Rose A. (Bumbera) Foley. He was raised in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke Trade High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. He lived on Prospect Street in the Fairview section of Chicopee before moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1966 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a carpenter for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local #336 and was a 50 years Gold Card Member of the union. He enjoyed woodworking and building refinishing and loved to putter around his home with his various projects. He was a longtime communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Above all, Fran enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Dale J. (Kaeppel) Foley. They were married on August 26, 1966 and were blessed with over 53 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Cynthia A. Longwell and Francis M. Foley II and his wife, Michelle, all of Commerce, GA, James J. Foley of Millbury, and Keri A. Rutherford and her husband, Shane, of Hudson, FL; his eight cherished grandchildren, Christopher Scinto and his wife, Laura, Cody Longwell, Meghan Foley, twins, Jake and Austin Foley, and Noah, Christian and Grace Rutherford; his cherished great grandson, Colton Scinto; his sister, Ann Nagy and her husband, Pete, of Holyoke; his two dear sisters-in-law, Jean White of Wilbraham and Nancy Maloof of Petersham; and his many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the family. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Jerome Foley who was Called Home on April 23, 2019. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
