Born May 28, 1923, to Alexander and Marie (Frank) Sommers in Fresno, CA, Lorraine was a first-generation American.
She went to be with her husband by the Lord’s side on April 16, 2020, at Bethany Point in Anderson, IN.
She was married on June 28, 1947, to Lawrence T. Withers (born October 3, 1923), who predeceased her on November 8, 2006.
She had three children and was predeceased by Lawrence J. Withers (Audrey Cohn Withers) on March 29, 2013. He is survived by his wife and children, Keith Withers and Julia Withers.
Lorraine is survived by CDR Thomas R. Withers USN (Ret), (Dianne Legin Withers), and three children, Erin Warham (Darren Warham), Lauren Ryan (CAPT John Ryan USN), and Leigh-Anne Fitzgerald (Lt Col Ryan Fitzgerald USAF).
She is also survived by Michael R. Withers (Janet Imler Withers), and two children, Nicholas Withers and Jonathan Withers (Caity Withers).
She is also loved by her nine great-grandchildren (Chloe, Jack, Briton, Virginia, Pete, Maggie, Reese, Liam, and Rory) and many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine attended Azusa Pacific Bible College and Anderson University and was a member of Park Place Church of God.
Lorraine was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, needlepoint, traveling, and was a talented organist who could play by ear. She was a member of the Jo March Club and the Euchre Club.
She worked for seventeen years as a volunteer at the St. John’s Gift shop. She enjoyed knitting, and in recent years knitted approximately 250 children’s sweaters for the World Vision Knit for Kids charity.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Park Place Church of God, The Park Place Food Pantry, or the Victoria Guild.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2020, and a Memorial Service will be planned for later this summer.
