Patricia Ann (Connors) Mareira passed away unexpectedly on Thursday April 16, 2020 at the age of 77.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late James Edward and Martha McNamara Connors, she lived in New Bedford most of her life. Pat was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School.
Pat leaves behind her loving family; sons David Mareira of Dorchester, Christopher Mareira and wife Diane of Attleboro, granddaughters Ashley, Lucie, and Sylvie Mareira, and grandpups Dusty and Owen.
Pat, known as "Patty" in the Connors clan, is survived by her siblings; James "Jimmy" Connors of Fairhaven, Brother Matthew Joseph Connors SVD of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and Mary Mountain and husband Ray of Cranston, RI. Pat was predeceased by her sister Martha Beatrice Stewart. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends, including June, Michelle, Beverly and the Hubba Bubba Club.
Pat worked in the New Bedford School system as a Teacher's Aide at Normandin Junior High School for over twenty years. She also worked at DeValles Daycare, formerly in the City's South End. Pat was a teacher in every aspect of her life. She found it especially rewarding to watch her students grow and mature into adulthood.
Pat’s hobbies included cooking for forty when she only expected ten, baking for others, crafting, and reading on the beach. She lived life to the fullest; dancing, vacationing, and playing cards with friends. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her “boys” and adored her granddaughters.
Due to current restrictions on public gatherings, a private family burial service will be held at Saint Mary's Cemetery in New Bedford. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Sister Rose House, 71 Division Street New Bedford, MA 02744. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
