James W. Barnhart, 78

James W. Barnhart, age 78, of Mansfield, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Leslie G. (Sanderson) Barnhart, to whom he was wed on October 23, 1976.
Born in West Unity, Ohio on February 26, 1942, he was a loving son of the late James D. and Geneva I. (Fisher) Barnhart.
Jim grew up in West Unity, Ohio and was a graduate of Hilltop High School in West Unity. Following graduation, he proudly served his country for four years in the United States Airforce during the time of the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from active duty with the rank of Airman Second Class.
A resident of Mansfield for the past thirty-six years, Mr. Barnhart had been employed as a technician at Verizon for thirty years, prior to retiring and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures of spending time at home with his adoring family. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed maintaining and cruising around in his Buick Grand National.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Jennifer Barnhart and her longtime companion Jason Brown of Attleboro and Justin A. Barnhart and his wife Robyne of Salem, New Hampshire. He was also the brother of Patricia Barnhart of Indiana.
All services will be private and visiting hours have been omitted.
