Teresa Maria Raposo Cordeiro, beloved Mother and Vavo, passed away on April 18th at St. Luke’s Hospital after several years of declining health. She was 84 years old.
Teresa was born and raised in Povoacao, St. Michael Azores. In 1966, she and her husband Jose, along with their three young children, immigrated to America and settled in New Bedford, where she lived all of her life. Teresa worked as a seamstress, and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Her home was always filled with the sweet aromas of her cooking and baking, and her warm smile and kind heart endeared herself to all who knew her. She will always be remembered as the most loving Mother and Vavo, and will be missed beyond words could ever say.
Teresa was predeceased by her parents, Manuel and Cecilia Raposo; her sister Maria Natvidade (Alfred) Cordeiro, and her husband of 48 years, Jose Cordeiro.
She is survived by her children, Albert Cordeiro and his wife Debbie, Theresa Larson and her husband James, and Joseph Cordeiro and his wife Christine. Her dear grandchildren, Jason, Amy, Alex, Michael, Jaimie, Haden, Bria and Grete along with 7 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brothers Augusto Raposo of Toronto Canada, Tiofilo (Carmen) Raposo, of New Bedford, and sister Guida (Fred) Nascimento, of Wasaga Beach Canada. Teresa is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNA’s who cared for our Mother these past few years, and the kind nurses who were with her during her passing.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering and to practice social distancing of 6 feet.
