Florence G. “Flo” (McCormick) Fortunato passed away peacefully at the Woodbriar Nursing Home on Monday April 13th. She was 93.
Born and raised in East Boston, Flo was the daughter of the late Alexander and Florence (Gillis) McCormick. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Flo was proud of her brief career with the telephone company as an operator. However, she was more proud to care for her family and, with her husband Carmine, give the family a beautiful and loving home and family life. An active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Medford’s Hillside, Flo was a good friend to many in the parish and neighborhood. She became active, in her later years, in senior citizen affairs. She will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful woman and will be missed by all who knew her.
The beloved wife of the late Carmine J. Fortunato, who passed away in 2006, she was a devoted and loving mother to Steven Fortunato of Pocasset, Nancy Garrett and her husband Allan of Hollywood, Fla., Joseph Fortunato and his partner Joyce Kelly of Revere, Anthony Fortunato and his wife Jennifer of Sudbury, and the late Linda Costello and her surviving husband James. Flo was an adoring grandmother to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a dear sister to Frank Ginepra of Revere and the late Katherine Rounds, Jean Beresford, M. Blanch Campagna, Alexander, Bruce, Donald, Paul and Malcolm McCormick. She also leaves many dear nieces and nephews.
