John C. Farrell, Sr. 77 of Medford died peacefully on April 13, 2020, due to complications resulting from COVID-19.
Born in 1942 in Waterbury, CT and raised in Thomaston CT, he was the son of the late Herbert P. Sr. and Ann (Russell) Farrell.
John proudly served his country in combat during the Vietnam War in the US Navy, on the destroyer the USS Samuel B. Roberts. After the war he and Roseann were married, on July 20, 1969, during the historic landing on the moon. John worked the night shift for over 30 years at Polaroid Corp Above all, John loved his family and spending time with them. He also enjoyed his days taking his dog, Gizmo, for walks and gardening. People often enjoyed passing his house just to see his beautiful flowers. Without a doubt, John was a very loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and was an overall kind and giving person. As an active member of his church and the Knights of Columbus, he dedicated countless hours doing charitable work. He was a passionate member of the prayer group at St Francis of Assisi. He was also a member of the American Legion and Malden Veterans of Irish Ancestry. John’s fun past-time was music. He was a member of the Medford Collaborative Church choir and other choirs. He was also a member of the Woburn City Band where he enjoyed playing his trumpet. John loved life and loved to socialize and have a good time. He and his trumpet were the “heart” of many family gatherings. Moreover, John was a man of true Faith in God and was comfortable with one day passing on and beginning his new life. We find comfort in knowing that he is in good hands with God and Home with his loving wife.
John was the beloved husband to the late Roseann D. (Scharaffa) Farrell, and the devoted father to John C. Farrell Jr. and his wife Maria Bari Farrell of Malden; his daughter Debra Hession and her husband Steve of Londonderry, NH. He was the loving grandfather to his blessed grandsons, Stephen, Jr. and Michael Hession, and Francesco Farrell. John was the was the caring brother of Margaret MacDonald and her husband Bill, James Farrell and his wife Linda, and the late Sylvia Barbati, and Paul, Peter and Herbert Farrell. He is also lovingly survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
