Obituary

Warren Floyd “Timmy” DeBarros, 76, of New Bedford passed away on Wednesday April 8 2020 at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He was the beloved husband of the late Toni Sharon Pina DeBarros.

Born in Marion, the son of the late Mary “Mamie” Barros Offley and William DeBarros, he had resided in New Bedford since 1969.

Mr. DeBarros was a retired Gunnery Sergeant from the United States Marine Corps and also served in the Army Reserves. In total, Warren F. DeBarros served 26 years in the armed forces. While in the Marine Corps, he received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat V and the Navy Commendation medals of honor. He was also employed for 20 years by the Town of Fairhaven, where he last served as a highway foreman.

Timmy was a life member of the Fairhaven Veterans of Foreign Wars and had served as one of their commanders. He was also a member of the Cape Verdean American Veterans Association and had marched in their 4th of July parades since its inception. In the parades he proudly represented the USMC. In addition, he was also a member of the Bisca Tournament Club.

His smile was legendary. He was loved by many. He fondly enjoyed time with his buddies at the Fairhaven V.F.W. The words “Fantastic” and “One day at a time” were always heard by all who knew him. Timmy did live life to its fullest as he truly lived “One day at a time.”

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Lynn DeBarros and her son Chandler Warren-Anthony DeBarros, who was also like a son to Timmy and was often referred to as “partner”. Other survivors include his loving fiancée Debra Anne Baptista and her children; his sisters, MaryJean “Tiny” Babbitt, Melinda L. Monteiro and her husband Michael J. Monteiro, Melody A. Rose and her late husband Robert A. Rose; his brother William “Funna” DeBarros; his godson, Scott A. DeBarros; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to current restrictions to public gatherings, a private family memorial service will be held. Private burial service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
