Obituary

Edward J. "Eddie" Cottier, a longtime resident of Charlestown, and a former resident of South Dennis on Cape Cod, enterted into eternal life on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was 84 years of age.

Eddie was born in Boston on May 26, 1935, a son of the late Joseph T. "Hobba" Cottier and Frances M. (Gallagher) Cottier. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1953. He furthered his education and received his Masters Degree from Assumption College and his Post-Graduate Degree from Fitchburg State College. Eddie enlisted into the United States Navy on September 14, 1954 and served his country with courage and honor during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 15, 1958 with the rank of EM1. Eddie joined the Religious Order of The Passionates Brothers and took his Novitiate in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He served in parishes for over 10 years in Holy Family Monastary in West Hartford, Connecticutt, St. Michael's Parish in Union City, New Jersey, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in West Springfield, St. Michael's Formation Center in Worcester and St. Michael's Parish in Dunkirk, New York. Following his religious life, Eddie began working as a Guidance Counselor at the Joseph P. Keefe Technical High School in Framingham for several years. He was a member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus, Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, Charlestown Historical Society, Rising Tide Writers of Cape Cod and the Massachusetts Teachers Retirement Association.

Eddie is the beloved husband of 41 years to the late Eleanor B. (Kirn) Cottier. He is the devoted brother of Joan Kyle, Geraldine Munden and the late Carol Mahoney who passed away on April 8, 2020, John Cottier, Joseph Cottier and Mary Cottier. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
