Joyce T. Orton, 81

Joyce T. (Tinney) Orton, age 81, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully from complications of the Covid-19 Virus on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of Von W. Orton, to who she was wed for the past sixty-one years.
Born in Quincy, MA on March 4, 1939, she was a loving daughter of the late Daniel and Lucetta (Noble) Tinney.
Joyce grew up in Quincy and was a 1956 graduate of North Quincy High School. She furthered her education, graduating from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in Education.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Orton had been employed for over twenty years as an Assistant Supervisor at Horace Mann Associates, a program for adults with disabilities. At the beginning of her working career, she taught and was rated nationally as an outstanding teacher in Suffield, CT.
A resident of Mansfield for the past forty-nine years, Joyce was an active longtime member of the Mansfield Congregational Church, where she served on many church committees, including teaching Nursery School.
Joyce’s family was the love of her life and together, they traveled throughout the country and abroad. She enjoyed music, participating in many arts & crafts shows and raising and showing pedigree rabbits.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her devoted children: David V. Orton and his wife Crystal of Littleton, Scott D. Orton of Mansfield, Brett M. Orton of Phoenix, AZ, Janine M. Phillips of Mansfield, who was pre-deceased by her husband Barry and the late Todd W. Orton. She was the cherished grandmother of Helen, Hannah, Connor and Colin Orton, Tyler Orton and Kassandra Orton-Foreman and her husband Casey. She was the dear sister of William Tinney and his wife Cindy of Abington and the adoring aunt of Kristen and Katherine.
Services, along with burial at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield will be private and visiting hours are omitted.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
