John P. McGowan, Sr., 81, of Tifton, Georgia, died Monday, April 13, 2020, at Legacy Village in Tifton.
A private graveside will be held and a public memorial will follow at a later date.
Mr. McGowan was born October 18, 1938, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Joseph Felton & Floye Perry McGowan. He was a 1956 graduate of Dudley High School. Mr. McGowan served his country honorably in the United States Air Force,
retiring as Master Sergeant with 20 years of service. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1976, following his retirement. For 17 years, he commuted and worked as a mechanic at Michelin Tire in South Carolina. He recently moved to Tifton and enjoyed playing games on his iPad. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Rogers McGowan of Tifton, children and their spouses: Pamela McGowan McNatt of Atlanta, Kim Prather and her husband Bill of Ocilla, and John Perry “Jay” McGowan, Jr. and his wife Jaki of Warner Robins; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren with another one on the way. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Powell McGowan; a granddaughter, Christie Vickers Murphy; and his brother, Joseph Felton McGowan, Jr.
