Obituary

James Russell Lindsay, 86, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2020, at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. James was the son of the late James K. and Lillian (Russell) Lindsay. He was born in Springfield on July 4, 1933, and was a graduate of Chicopee High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jim was a resident of Chicopee and worked for many years in engineering at Digital Equipment Corp. in Springfield. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing in their bowling & golf leagues. Jim was very proud of and instrumental in the design of both the Korean War Memorial and Vietnam War Memorial monuments honoring Chicopee veterans. He enjoyed traveling and loved music. His favorite times were spent with his family on Cape Cod where he loved taking long walks on the beaches of Wellfleet. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marcia J. (Shea) Lindsay and his sons James W. Lindsay and John S. Lindsay. He will be dearly missed by his family including his daughter Suzanne Stockley, and husband Paul, of Longmeadow, daughter Donna Berneche of South Hadley, his son Michael P. Lindsay, and wife Corinne, of East Longmeadow, his sister Carole Cunningham, and her husband James, of Cheshire, CT, sister Linda Kupec of Cheshire, CT, along with his adoring grandchildren Lindsay, Matthew, Meghan, Jillian, Alicen, Collin, and Ryan and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff at the Soldiers’ Home for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be private. Grise` Funeral Home, Chicopee, MA is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Mass., 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104-3274.
