Obituary

Christina Mercier, 85, a resident of Roberts Health Centre in North Kingstown, RI, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2006. Formerly of Dudley, MA, she was the wife of the late J. Bernard Mercier. They were married 54 years.
She leaves a son David B. Mercier and his family of North Kingstown, RI. An older son, Francis B. Mercier of Tolland, CT, died in 1985.
Born in Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (McKenzie) Kennedy. Her family moved to Wimbledon, England, when she was a small child. She served during World War II in the British Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service. It was during this service that she met her future husband.
Mrs. Mercier worked for 20 years at the Chester C. Corbin Public Library in Webster, MA. She served as the Children’s Librarian from 1959 until 1963, than held the Head Librarian position until retiring in 1979.
She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and painting, and spent many winters in Florida with her husband as members of the Wally Byam Airstream trailer club.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15th, at St. Bernard’s Church, 415 Tower Hill Road (Route 1), North Kingstown, RI. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Activities Department, Roberts Health Centre, 25 Roberts Way, North Kingstown, RI 02852. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
