Obituary

Jay F. Bissonnette, 78, of Fairhaven died Thursday April 2, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn (Heywood) Bissonnette, who passed away three hours earlier the same day.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Mary (Kucharsky) Woodacre, he lived in this area all his life and resided in Fairhaven since 1985.

Mr. Bissonnette was a certified welder, retiring from NStar after 28 years of service. From 1985 to 2002, he owned and operated the Bayside Lounge on Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven.

He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years, with much of that time spent in the North Atlantic aboard the survey ship, USS Sheldrake.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lee D. and Paula J. (Lorenz) Bissonnette of Fairhaven; two beloved granddaughters, Ava Marie Bissonnette and Carlee Jean Bissonnette of Fairhaven; his sister, Debra Bissonnette and her partner Leslie Lopes of New Bedford; his brother, Andrew J. Woodacre and his wife Dianne of New Bedford; two sisters-in-law, Susan M. Abraham and her husband Peter and Janet Bouchard; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

In accordance with his wishes, all arrangements will be private. Burial with military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
