Mary Theresa McCarthy (known best as Ma, Maureen, and Nana), age 88, passed away on Friday evening, April 3, 2020 after a hard fought cancer battle. She was born on April 14, 1931 in Boston, MA, a daughter to the late Richard and Margret Kelly. Mary was preceded in death by her brother Connie Kelly, sisters, Margret (Peggy) Flynn, Josephine Hession, and Harriet Neary; daughter Theresa McCarthy; and granddaughter Allison Corf. After her children were grown, Mary worked in the accounting department for a major hotel corporation. She was a great bowler, beach goer and cake maker. She most enjoyed raising/spending time with her children/grandchildren, shopping with her girls, and eating ice cream. Mary led by example. There was never a task too large or too small that she would not tackle. She was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman and will be missed every day. Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years, William McCarthy; five children, Patricia (McCarthy) Corf and her husband Michael, Michael McCarthy and his wife Sandra, Thomas McCarthy and his wife Joanne, Donna (McCarthy) Olson and her husband Peter, and Billy McCarthy; two grandchildren Michelle (Corf) McDonald and husband Christopher and Kyle Olson. Due to the current situation with COVID-19, arrangements will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memory of Theresa McCarthy and Allison Corf, to Boston Children's Hospital, 333 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA 01225.
