Esto Rinaldo “Juney” Smith departed this world April 4, 2020 to join his father, Joseph David Smith, mother, Mary Gladin Smith, and brother Aubrey Smith in their eternal home and to live in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Virginia Reeves Smith Columbus, GA., Sons, Michael (Linda) Smith, Rebecca, GA; Wayne (Susan) Smith, Rebecca, GA ; David (Lynn)Smith, Danville, VA; and daughter Melanie (Tommy) Cummings; Columbus, GA, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was born June 19, 1924, in Wilcox County, Georgia and grew up on the family farm near Rebecca, Georgia. He was a graduate of Wesleyan College and later earned his post graduate degree from Auburn University. He served in the United States Army during World War ll. He became a band director and later a principal for the Muscogee County School System in Columbus.
Mr. Smith was a Baptist and faithfully attended and served as Choir Director for Edgewood Baptist, Mt. Zion Baptist, and Britt David Baptist Churches in Columbus.
He was a member of Britt David Baptist Church for over 50 years and attended regularly with his wife.
Mr. Smith enjoyed catching fish, and the many fishing trips he shared with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, music, singing, and playing the piano. He loved to fellowship with family and friends. He was a positive influence on those around him. His was a life well lived and he will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
A private graveside will be held and a public memorial will follow at a later date.
