Ouardes N. (Gossn) Smith of Medford passed away on Tuesday, March 31. Born and raised in Tanabi, Sao Paulo, Brazil, she was the daughter of the late Nassin Joao and Aparecida (Soares de Araujo) Gossn. Ouardes married in Brazil in 1966 and came to the U.S. After living in New Mexico and Texas until 1975, she and her husband Lee returned to Brazil for 18 years. They returned to the U.S. and settled in Medford in 1994. Ouardes loved working with pottery and became very accomplished at pottery painting.
Ouardes was the beloved wife of Lee Roy Smith III, and the devoted mother of Cynthia Melissa Smith, and Andreas Gossn Smith and his wife Alyssa Ann. She was the loving grandmother of Noah Matthew Smith and Aiden Joseph Smith, and the dear sister of Rosa Maria Goncalves. Ouardes is also survived by her nephew Alexandre Gossn Barreto.
