Jay C. Mier, born September 2, 1944, passed away peacefully as a result of Covid 19 at St. Vincent Anderson after a long battle with COPD and Muscular Dystrophy. Jay was the son of the late James C. Mier and Florence (Mier) Allen. Jay was a lifelong resident of Chesterfield.
Jay served his country in the United States Army during 1965-66 and received an honorable (Medical) discharge.
He served the town of Chesterfield as a volunteer firefighter for almost 10 years as both Captain and Chief. He also served on the town board for 21 years with eight years on the fire board. Jay was a member of Chesterfield American Legion Post 408 for 37 consecutive years. He retired from Guide Lamp, October 1, 1999 after 37 years of employment.
Jay is survived by his son, Jason Mier of Anderson; two grandsons, Tristen Mier (friend Maggie) of Bloomington; and Bentley Mier of Anderson; three granddaughters, Madelyn of Chesterfield, Azaira Black of Anderson and Jadelyn (Marcus) Jones of Concord, North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Ricco and Mila of North Carolina; sisters, Margaret Stofflet of Anderson and Bonnie Baker of Shepherd Hills, Florida; several nieces and nephews; good friends Bobby Jo Stewart and Gene Lewis both of Chesterfield; as well as his furry companions, Biscuit and Cupcake.
Jay was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Black; brothers Jim and Bob Hunter; sisters, Martha Ousley and Marilyn Galmore. His beloved dog, Sadie also preceded him in death.
The family would like to give a special thanks to granddaughter, Madelyn for her care of Jay these past months.
Private graveside service will be held at Bronnenberg Cemetery with a celebration of Life at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given to Union Township Volunteer Fire Department.
