Theresa (Taranto) Colozzo, age 81, of Winchester, formerly a long-time resident of Medford, passed away on March 30, 2020, lovingly surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife for 45 years of the late Cosmo Colozzo until his death in 2004.
Born in Palermo, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Madelana (Camenita) Taranto.
Theresa was raised and educated in Sicily and came to the United States at the age of 16. Her family settled in Somerville. It was there that she met the love of her life, Cosmo Colozzo, as his family was also part of the immigration wave whose closely-knit families all knew each other. Her family eventually moved to Medford.
Mrs. Colozzo was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years as a secretary with Social Security/Disability. In her spare time, Theresa enjoyed cooking, dancing and traveling. Her children remembered her extraordinary culinary feasts and said, “it was a holiday meal every day!” Theresa and her husband spent time as “snow birds” visiting Florida and made many memories on trips to Cape Cod.
Theresa is lovingly survived by her children: Josephine Magaletta and husband Savino of Stoneham, Pasquale “Lino” Colozzo and wife Assia of Winchester, Madeline Colozzo of Reading, Vincent Colozzo and wife Monica of Melrose. She was also the cherished grandmother of Joanna & Savino Magaletta, Gina & Luna Colozzo, Joseph, Anthony and Robert Colozzo and the dear sister of Donna DeSimone and her late husband Giovanni of Somerville, Anthony Taranto and his late wife Lilliana of CA, Lucille Russo and her husband Enzo of Malden and Salvatore Taranto and his wife Mary of Reading.
In light of the precautions with Covid-19, Funeral Services are strictly private. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford
