Don Ross Vickers, 71, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Thursday, March 26, 2020, at Tifton Health & Rehab in Tifton, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, March 29, 2020, at Ocilla Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating.
Mr. Vickers was born October 27, 1948, in Ocilla, Georgia to Doris Ross Vickers and the late Jack Elie Vickers. He lived in the community all of his life. He graduated from Irwin County High School in 1966 and received an Associates degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He later attended Georgia Southern. Mr. Vickers worked in the banking industry for 44 years with the Bank of Ocilla, Citizens Security and Ameris Bank, serving as a lender and Vice-President. He was a member of the Ocilla Lions Club and served in the National Guard for six years. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was an avid golfer at the Ocilla Country Club, where he was club champion 10 of 17 times and was always in the Top 5 players the remaining tournaments. Mr. Vickers held the course record at the Ocilla Country Club. He was a member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Vickers of Ocilla; a brother, Darryl Vickers of Ocilla; two sons-in-law: Tate Arnold of Ocilla and Kyle Murphy of Warner Robins and two grandchildren: Gowan Arnold and Gabe Arnold. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christie Vickers Murphy.
