Mary L. (Bettencourt) McCawley, 79, of New Bedford died Thursday February 9, 2006 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Edward P. McCawley.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joao and Maria A. (Jacques) Bettencourt, she lived in Wareham and Marion before moving to Dartmouth in 1993 and to New Bedford in 2004.
Mrs. McCawley was formerly employed as a secretary at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed skiing, swimming and dancing.
Survivors include a sister, Elsie Macedo of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late John Bettencourt.
Her Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 10 AM in St. Mary's Cemetery.
