John P. Hopkins, Jr., 74, of New Bedford died Sunday March 15, 2020 after a long illness.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late John Hopkins. Sr. and Mary (Iacoponi) Hopkins, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
John owned and operated Hopkins Real Estate Agency for many years. He also served as an elected assessor for the City of New Bedford.
During the Vietnam War, he served as a Sergeant in the U.S Air Force. He was a graduate of Bryant College.
An avid New England sports fan, he was especially fond of the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots.
He is survived by his longtime companion Chong Chung and her sister Chun Tavares; his daughter, Meredith E. Webster and her husband Joe; his sister, Valerie Jones; his grandchildren, Sydney Hopkins, Ella Webster, and Wesley Webster; his nieces, Sarah and Michelle Pelletier; his nephew, Tyrone Jones; and his great-nephew, Chace Jones.
He was the brother of the late Dale Pelletier.
Private burial services will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
