Worcester – Julia Marrero Medina, daughter of Flores Medina and Elisa Medina, neighbor of the town of Cayey, Puerto Rico, excellent daughter, sister, but among all a mother like no other. A struggling mother who taught her children and grandchildren the value of honor, hard work and the importance of academic preparation passed away on Monday, March 16th in the UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.
She was a woman that lived without fear of facing life, despite the great obstacles that she was presented with. During her youth she moved from Puerto Rico to Worcester in search of a better future so that she could help her parents. Julia worked at Colegio La Merced for many years in Cayey, Puerto Rico, where with great sacrifice she managed to get her children to study.
Julia was a simple, jovial and happy woman who was full of life. One of the most important things that she left behind for her family and friends was her love of family. Her greatest satisfaction was that she had a loving family that spent so much time together. The love of life and giving of one’s self was her virtue, she was a woman with an immense heart, which she gave to all who knew her. Julia will be missed by all who knew her
In her youth she organized all of the Christmas activities for the community for many years without fail. Julia sold beauty and home products so that she could meet the needs of her children. She had beautiful writing and mastered the rules of the Spanish language, just as if she was a teacher. Julia had developed an intelligence and critical analysis of everything that surrounded her due to her love of reading.
Julia had a special love for playing bingo, taking trips to the casino and playing dominos with her aunt and neighbors. She was a woman of great faith and believed strongly in her values and having a fervent love of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
