Obituary

On Sunday, March 15, 2020 loving husband and father of our children passed away at his home in Providence, RI, at the age of almost 91.
Ihor E. Hayda was born in Ternopil, Ukraine in 1929 to Philip and Stanislava (Lysy) Hayda. In 1944, following the Bolshevik and then the Nazi German occupation, the family fled the expanding Soviet regime. Ihor graduated from high school in Displaced Persons’ camp in Berchtesgaden, Germany, and received his MS degree in food sciences in 1952 from the Louvain Catholic University in Louvain, Belgium and rejoined his family in Detroit. In June 1958 he married Roma M. Kniahynycka with whom he raised four sons, Borys, Marko, Roman and Pavlo.
Ihor worked in the food industry and was a member of many professional associations. He was active in the Ukrainian American organizations, such as Plast-scouting. He was generous supporter of Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine, Ukrainian museums in New York and Stamford, CT and other. He loved outdoor life, skiing and tennis.
Ihor was preceded in death by his father Philip, mother Stanislava, brother Tanas and his youngest son the Rev. Pavlo. He is survived by his wife Roma and the three children, Borys, Marko and Roman, ten grandchildren, his sister Zoriana, his nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church in Boston, MA, at 6 PM visitation followed by funeral services at 6:30 PM.
