Helen F. (Carney) Doherty, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2020 at Advocate Health Care (Don Orione Home) in East Boston. She was 92 years of age.
Helen was born in Boston on October 29, 1927, a daughter of the late George Carney and Helen F. (Byrne) Carney. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Helen worked for the City of Boston in the Public School System as a Para-Professional for several years. Helen was also a homemaker who cared for her family.
Helen is the beloved wife of the late John J. Doherty. She is the devoted mother of Deborah Taylor, Grace McNulty and her husband Thomas and John J. Doherty Jr. She is the loving Nana to Jacqueline Taylor, Brian McNulty, Allison McNulty and Kristine McNulty. She is the beloved sister of John Carney and the late George Carney, James Carney, William Carney, Edward Carney, Robert Carney, Walter Carney and Howard Shortsleeve. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen's visiting hours on Saturday morning, March 21, 2020 from 8 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
