Henrique "Henry" DaSilva, 94, of New Bedford died Sunday, March 15, 2020 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Clara (Gomes) DaSilva.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Henrique and Francisca DaSilva, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Henry was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
He was formerly employed as a cook for Red Star Towing Company for many years until his retirement.
Henry was a member of the Bisca Tournament Club, the Ideal Social Club, and Local 333 of the United Maritime Division. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, woodworking, and playing bisca. He was a musician who played guitar and violin.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; three children, Eugenia Ortiz, Linda Gilmete, and Robert DaSilva and his wife Carla; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his children, Henry P. DaSilva and Marie Lopes and his siblings, Peter, Joao, Jose, Julio, and Manuel DaSilva, Candida Barbosa, Maria Fernandes, Eugenia Andrade, Michelina DeGraca, and Adelina DaSilva.
Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings, his visitation, Funeral Mass, and burial will be private for immediate family. A public Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
