Earl W. Dicks, age 85, of Norton, formerly of Dedham, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at home on Friday, March 13, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy J. (Sorensen) Dicks, to whom he was wed for forty years at the time of her death on August 12, 2001.
Born in Boston, MA on October 7, 1934, he was a loving son of the late Willis and Emma (Gilbert) Dicks.
Earl grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of Roxbury Latin High School. During the time of the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
The majority of Mr. Dick’s working career was spent in banking. After working many years at Hancock Bank in Quincy, he retired with the position of a Senior Vice-President. Following retirement, he worked for the Flatley Company and Woods Realty.
Earl had resided in Norton for the past eighteen years and was a former longtime resident of Dedham. His family was the truly essence of his life and he will especially be missed by his dog “Willy” and all those whose lives he touched.
Earl was an avid reader and cribbage player and enjoyed gardening. He was a loyal New England sports fan, with a special passion for the Red Sox and will never be forgotten for his quick wit and amazing sense of humor.
He is survived by his devoted children: Lori A. Sullivan and her longtime companion Bob Oliver of Sandwich, Steven E. Dicks and his wife Carole of Cheshire, CT, David M. Dicks and his wife Eileen of Readville, Scott E. Dicks of Dedham, Terri L. Nickerson and her husband Scott of Norton and the late Pamela J. Graham, who is survived by her husband Richard Graham of Norton. He is also survived by his loving siblings, grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, March 19th from 5:00 -8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Funeral services and burial will take privately at the convenience of his family.
