FALL RIVER – Maria L. (da Costa) Sousa, age 79 of Fall River, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. She was the beloved wife of Gustavo F. Sousa and the daughter of the late João Pereira da Costa Leitão & the late Palmira A. (Pereira) da Costa.
Prior to retiring, Maria worked for almost 25 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant for various Nursing Homes. Maria was very proud to receive her GED, CNA Certificate, and most of all becoming a U.S. Citizen. She loved gardening in her flower beds, listening to her favorite Portuguese singer, Marco Paulo, and especially spending quality time with her family.
Besides her husband of Fall River, Maria was the mother of Jorge P. Sousa, Gustavo M. Sousa, and Maria L. Sousa all of Fall River; grandmother of Amanda M. Costa, Logan J. Sousa, and Dylan J. Sousa; the sister of Fernanda Fernandes, Renato Pereira da Costa, Manuel Pereira da Costa, Eugenio Pereira da Costa, Flavio Pereira da Costa; many nieces & nephews Maria was predeceased by several of her siblings.
A committal service for Maria will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery, Stafford Road on Monday, March 16th at 9:00 A.M. Arrangements are under the direction of the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc.
