LOWELL--Marcella Johanna ‘Marcy’ (DeDyen) Pattavina, 97 years old, of Lowell, died, Tuesday, January 31st, at the Wentworth Nursing Care Center, in Lowell. She was wife of the late Joseph Pattavina.
She was born in Ghent, Belgium, on December 28, 1908, a daughter of the late Joseph and Louisa (Van Heddegen) DeDyan. She was separated from her family who had traveled ahead to the US to establish the family residence in Lowell. When WWI broke out, trans-Atlantic travel was too dangerous, and Marcy was not able to join her family until 1918 at the end of the war.
Marcy worked for over 30 years in many of Lowell's mills including the Merrimack, Mohair Plush, Ames Worsted and Boot Mills. Many of the buildings in which she worked have become the museums of the Lowell National and Heritage State Parks. She worked at Raytheon Corp., in Lowell for 15 years and was Employee of the Year in 1964. She was also employed part time at Lowell's Laurier club during WWII.
Marcy enjoyed knitting, playing cards and the beach. She was devoted to her family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marcy will be sadly missed and is survived by her son: Michael C. Pattavina, of Lowell; six grandchildren: Cheryl DiCenso, of Winthrop; Michael J. Pattavina, of Greenfield; John Pattavina, of Tewksbury; Mary Ellen Amicone, of Magnolia; Margot LaPointe, of Brimfield; and April Pattavina, of Andover. She has eight great-grandchildren; Robby McEnaney, Alex Martakos, Nathan LaPointe, Kelli Pattavina, Derek John Pattavina, Charlotte Lenes, Brooke Lenes, and Marcel Pattavina.
She was the sister of the late Omer DeDyen and Julia (DeDyen) Chiraldi.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, February 12th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her funeral service to be held Monday, February 13th, at 11 AM at St. Mary Cemetery Chapel. Burial in St Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
