Julia Ann (MacDonald) Newton, resident of Andover, Massachusetts, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, March 3rd at Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, Massachusetts after an extended illness.
Ann was born on February 27, 1929 in Allston/Brighton, Massachusetts, and was the beloved daughter of Thomas MacDonald and Ethel Rose (Duffty) MacDonald, and the beloved sister of Margaret (MacDonald) Foster of Andover. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harry Edward Newton of Indianapolis, Indiana, and cherished son Wayne Thomas Newton of Nashville, Indiana.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, JoAnn Latvaitis of Andover, nieces Cheryl Foster and partner James Greer, Rachel (Foster) Cloutier and husband John Cloutier of Andover, Karen Foster-Gervacio and husband Carlos Gervacio of Tewksbury, Leslie Merrill and husband William Merrill formerly of Topsfield , nephew Bill Foster and wife Cindy Foster of Osterville, MA, as well as great-nieces Michelle Cloutier, Kristina Cloutier, Kelsey Foster, and great-nephews Jack Cloutier, Carlos William Gervacio, and John Diego Gervacio, second cousins Andrew & wife Sandy Duffty and Philip & wife Evelyn Duffty, and second cousins Paul and Leslie Duffty of Eaglesham, Scotland.
Julia, known to her friends and family as "Ann" was a devoted wife and mother, raising her family in Indianapolis, Indiana. After the death of her husband, Harry, she moved back to Andover, Massachusetts in 2004 to live beside and enjoy the company of her dear sister Margaret Foster and extended family.
She was a member of South Church of Andover and gave countless hours of community service and volunteer work throughout her life. She volunteered for many years at Community Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana and at the Andover Thrift Shop, South Church and Andover Senior Center after moving back to Massachusetts. The Andover Thrift shop gave her countless hours of joy, as it became her social hour to spend time with very special friends there.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to "South Church" where they will be dispersed to the Memorial Gift Fund and contributed to community projects in need. Please indicate "Ann Newton Memorial Gift" if you choose to donate on Ann's behalf.
Calling hours / Visitation service will be held Tuesday, March 10th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, located at 390 N. Main St. in Andover. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 11th at 10:30 a.m. at South Church, 41 Central Street in Andover, MA, followed by burial at West Parish Cemetery, located at 129 Reservation Rd. in Andover. An informal gathering for coffee and a light luncheon will be held in Fellowship Hall in the lower level of South Church following the burial service.
