Obituary

Eva L. (Abreu) Baptiste, 89 of New Bedford died March 7, 2020 unexpectedly at home.
Born in Harwich, daughter of the late Augustus and Edna (Walker) Abreu, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was formerly employed in the cafeteria at Keith Junior High School and Elizabeth Carter Brooks School for 26 years and was a CNA at Windsor Nursing Home for 22 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Baptiste enjoyed dancing at the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club, the Cape Verdean Youth Athletic Association, the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association, the United Social Club and Bisca Tournament Club.
She was an very outgoing, compassionate person who loved her family and friends.
Survivors include her 3 sons, Richard V. Baptiste and Ricardo J. Barros, both of New Bedford and Alexander M. Barros and his wife Wendy of Acushnet; 2 daughters, Karen L. Rogers and her husband Kelvin B. Rogers, Sr. of Centerville and Kimberly Coates of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Rosalin "Lolly" Nye of Marion and Virginia Mary Wende of Sacramento, CA; 20 grandchildren, Amy Lynn Baptiste Gracia, Darnell Joseph Baptiste, Kelvin B. Rogers, Jr., Deanna M. Rogers, Robert Daniel Hull, Daejanni Baptiste, Jamye A. Barros, Alexander M. Barros, II, Jasmine A. Barros, Kendal Armstrong, Isaiah R. Barros, Sydni Armstrong, Dagney Ashley, Francine Baptiste, Micole Baptiste, Wanda Baptiste, Cassandra Ann-Marie Soares, Wayne Soares, Brandie Leich Barros, Nateasha Rachel Barros Vincent; many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was the longtime companion of the late Richard J. Barros, the former wife of the late Frank J. Baptiste, the mother of the late Robert W. Baptiste, Michael L. Baptiste, Frank Joseph Baptiste, Jr. and Jeffrey Baptiste and the sister of the late Evelyn "Evie" Vega, Thelma "Shell" Baptiste, Joseph Abreu and Augustus Abreu, Jr.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 16th at 10 AM in the Christian Fellowship Center. Burial will follow in the Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 15th from 2-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
