New Bedford – Henry V. Martin, Jr. of Dartmouth, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on Saturday, March 7, 2020 after a brief illness with his loving wife and family by his side. He was the husband of Elaine F. (Sylvia) Martin, whom he was happily married to for the last thirty years.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts he lived in Acushnet, Massachusetts and for the past thirty years in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Henry V. Martin and Mary (Santos) Martin.
His achievements in life were many. He graduated from S.M.T.I in 1967 with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Degrees. The pride of his life was that he was President and C.E.O of DenMar Corporation, a sheet metal fabrication business, for 43 years. The business went from a small garage in New Bedford to its current location on Reed Road in Dartmouth. He was a Lieutenant for Dartmouth Fire District 2 and was also a part of the dive team. He was a dive instructor for Whaling City Sea and Ski, an avid hunter and was a member of many of the local gun clubs in the New Bedford area. He was a pilot with a license to fly cargo planes, as well as helicopters and sea planes.
He loved vacationing with his family in Kissimmee, Florida and always enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. He and his wife enjoyed many camping trips along the east coast in their trailer and in their motorhome. Since 2015, he spent summers at their seasonal trailer at Bay View Campground in Bourne, Massachusetts, where he made many lasting friendships.
His love for animals was extra special and he had many. His two Labrador Retrievers, Bailey and Sadie, were his camping buddies. He had much joy walking the girls around the campground.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; his five children, Melissa Pavlik and her husband David, Stephanie Martin, David Martin and his wife Renee, Danielle Garcia and her husband Kris, Paul Douglas and his wife Sandy; fourteen grandchildren, Victor, Eric and Isaac Pavlik, Connor, Nathan and Lauren Eolin, Morgan, Molly and Mason Garcia, Brandon and David Martin, Brayton Oliveira, Brielle and Brayden Douglas and great-granddaughter, Aubree Martin; a sister, Melody Martin and her husband Dan; as well as his niece, Beverly Santos and his nephew, Curtis Mello.

Henry’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 10th from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. His funeral will be Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in So. Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
