Mary Elizabeth McAdoo of Dedham, MA, formerly of Hull, MA and Floyd, NY passed away on March 7, 2020 at the age of 57. She heroically fought metastatic pancreatic cancer from diagnosis last spring to the end. She never gave up and her motto was ‘I’m going to kick cancer’s ass today’. Mary had an infectious personality, loved to laugh, always had a positive attitude and was loved by all her knew her. She is survived by her loving wife Victoria Griffin, Jeannine Bartell McAdoo Damon (mother), Heather McAdoo Angell (sister), Danny Angell (brother-in-law), Laurie and Vincent Carey (aunt and uncle), Rick Bartell (uncle), Kyle White (nephew), Erika Proffitt (niece) and Hannah White (great niece). She is predeceased by Ray McAdoo (father), Jay McAdoo (brother) and John Damon Jr. (stepfather).

Mary is a graduate of University of Massachusetts where she received her BSN and University of Phoenix where she received a dual Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and Nursing. Mary worked in retail at Au Bon Pain then switched to healthcare and had extensive clinical experience as an Operating Room RN/Educator/Manager/Director. Mary worked at various hospitals including Faulkner Hospital, Milton Hospital and Quincy Hospital before she moved to ambulatory operating room/recovery nurse roles at Reproductive Science Center, Boston Outpatient Surgical Suites, Boston Pain Care Center, Eastern Massachusetts Surgery Center and her most recent position was as the Peri-Operative Educator at MetroWest Medical Center.

Growing up in Floyd, NY she enjoyed playing softball and was a charter member of the Floyd Drum and Bugle Corps and played clarinet, bugle and accordion instruments. Mary loved sports and was a hard core Patriots football fan!

Mary had many hobbies and interests including: scuba diving, boating, camping, gardening, birdwatching, puzzles, bike riding, motorcycle riding and travel. She’s traveled to several Caribbean islands, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and Iceland. Mary and her wife greatly appreciate the wonderful and compassionate care she received at DFCI and Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA. Mary participated in the Purple Strides walk to fight pancreatic cancer in November 2019 and was supported by her MetroWest co-workers who walked as a team with her titled ‘Mary’s Warriors’. We encourage participation in the Purple Stride walk sponsored by ‘PAN CAN’ for pancreatic cancer to be held at Boston Common on November 1, 2020.

In lieu of funeral, Mary invites her family, friends and co-workers to a ‘Celebration of Life’ gathering on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 1:00-3:00pm at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 456 High Street, Dedham, MA 02026. Please come share your stories about Mary to celebrate her life.
