NEW GLOUCESTER- David Burns Shaw, age 28, of New Gloucester, passed away on March 3, 2020. He was born in Portland on July 14th, 1991 and graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 2009.
David will be remembered as an incredibly compassionate and generous human being, ready to lend a helping hand at any time to any one. His leaving our sight creates an incredible void that will be impossible to fill.
He loved hanging around a camp fire with his friends and family and on certain occasions loved to supplement the evening with generous applications of fireworks. On one such occasion the neighbors had called the police about the noisy fire works and the sheriffs department appeared at the fire to follow up on the complaint. After David explained that the fireworks show was essentially over, the deputy complimented David on the show saying they had watched from across the street for a few minutes before appearing at the fire to do their duty and that it was "pretty impressive". After checking the local ordinances and realizing that he didn't legally have to end the show and still had one mortar left, waited until one minute before the legal curfew and lit his one remaining firework for the complaining neighbor. He loved to get the last word in when he could.
There wasn't too much that he didn't like to do. He had a sincere appreciation for music and the sound system technology that accompanied it. He loved anything mechanical and was in the process of restoring an early 60s Fiat sports car that his Bumpa Shaw had given him. Firearms was another passion of his and he was a good shot, making sure his dad never forgot that he had "out shot" him shooting skeet. He spent a lot of time with his grandfather, Bumpa Shaw who taught David how to play golf. The last few years David played in a golf tournament with his Dad.
David was currently employed by Tambrands/Proctor and Gamble in Auburn as a mechanical technician.
He had been previously employed at Idexx Laboratoties in Westbrook in a similar capacity.
In true David Shaw fashion he did his job well and made many friends at both locations.
David is survived by his son- Kirnan Alban Burns Shaw; father-Michael V. Shaw and his wife Cyndi of Standish; mother-Linda (Harmon) Wheeler of New Gloucester; paternal grandfather-Burns Vinal Shaw of York; siblings- Michael V. Shaw II, Harley J. Wheeler, George F.
