Jerry Wayman Bishop was born November 6, 1947 to Clenon Bishop and Ruth Johnston Bishop. He passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at his home in Destin, Florida after a brief illness.
Joe Gray, Craig Foust, Jim Delvicchico, Donnie Childers, Larry Corbin, Braydon Kirk, Parker Kirk and Liam Stone will serve as pallbearers.
Jerry was born in Tifton, where he graduated from Tift County High School, where he was very involved in track. He also graduated from Valdosta State University and the University of Georgia with a master’s degree in Business.
Before becoming a successful entrepreneur and real estate developer, he taught real estate. During his career, he was well-known for his commercial developments and custom homes in multiple cities and states throughout the southeast. He loved to read and spend time outdoors, particularly at the beach, where he enjoyed walking and running. He was an avid traveler and also enjoyed snow skiing.
Jerry cared deeply for others and was always looking for small ways to help other people. He did this with no fanfare or recognition, but simply because he wanted to and could. Most notably, he was known as a genuine, honest and humble man.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Clenon and Ruth Bishop, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Webster and Barbara Bishop Morgan.
He is survived by his nieces, Hannah Stone of Boston, Georgia and Mary Ruth Morgan-Kirk of Destin, Florida, as well as his great-nephews, Braydon and Parker Kirk and Liam Stone. He also leaves behind many loved friends and colleagues.
Services for Mr. Bishop will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Rickey Wells officiating. Visitation will be immediately prior at 1:00 p.m.
