Yvonne Smith, age 78, of Plymouth, passed away on February 27, 2020. Funeral services will be held at the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home 10 Tower St. (Opp. Forest Hills MBTA Station) Jamaica Plain on Thursday March 5 from 6-8 pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Her funeral and burial services will take place in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Yvonne Jamesette Bransford Smith (Age 78) was born July 5, 1941 in
Louisville, Kentucky to the late Reverend James Bransford and Myrtle
Meredith Hawkins.
As an only child from the union, Yvonne was loved immensely by both her
parents and all those who grew up with her. At an early age, Yvonne
displayed a true talent when it came to music. Whether it was playing
the piano or performing with her best friend Mozella Keys and her cousin
Audrey Lee as a gospel trio, Yvonne was a lover of all types of music.
Yvonne graduated from Kentucky State University (KSU), in Frankfort,
Kentucky, where she excelled in both academics and music. While
attending KSU, Yvonne was a member of the institution’s concert choir
and the Alpha Pi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated,
while working towards earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Music
Education.
After completing her education, she moved to Illinois where started her
career teaching music to elementary and middle school children. Over the
next 40 years, she transitioned out of the classroom and into other
various roles including co-ownership of the Markham Roller Rink and
Sports Oasis – Sporting Good Store in Markham Illinois; As an
administrative assistant with the Town of Greenwich in Connecticut; and
Law Enforcement with the Boston College Police Department – Security
Division in Boston, Massachusetts.
Yvonne’s greatest accomplishment was proudly serving the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts as a Trial Court Officer for 13 years. During this time,
Yvonne was admired, loved, and respected by those who worked alongside
her.
Many that came to know Yvonne realized that she was a funny, passionate,
and God-Fearing Christian that never backed down in the face of
adversity. Yvonne will truly be missed but her spirit will forever echo
into eternity.
Yvonne leaves behind to cherish her memories; her children – Antron
(Leonardeen), Avrom (Helen), and Ahira Smith; Grandchildren Ansen,
Yasmina, and Leilani Smith; Half-Brother – Matthew Bransford
(California); Uncle - William Meredith (New York); Best Friend - Mozella
Keys (New York), Cousins - Audrey Lee (New Jersey), Kimberly Meredith
and Rhae Meredith Clore (Georgia), and a host of other cousins, nieces,
nephews, colleagues, and friends.
