Derek James Barrett, 33, of Whitman, Massachusetts passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2020 at Lahey Hospital Burlington, after fighting a battle with kidney cancer.
Born in Brockton, MA on September 20, 1986. Son of Donna Roche and William Barrett along with Stepmother Lisa Barrett. Survived by his grandfather, Joseph T. Roche. Grandson of the late Theresa Roche and Sylvia & Raymond Barrett.
Beloved fiancé to Nicole Jutras of Reading, MA and loving father to his son William Barrett. Cherished by his siblings Joseph Barrett of Hanson, Rob & Jessica Barrett of Falmouth, Brittany Pierce & fiancé Scott Cavagnaro of West Bridgewater and Ryan McFarlin of Falmouth. A devoted uncle to Cadence, Bryson and Cian Barrett and nephew to Carol & Matt Potter. He is also survived by many adoring aunts, uncles & cousins who will miss him very much.
Derek attended South Shore Vocational High School where he was a star football player, later playing for the South Shore Chiefs. He was a dedicated family man, avid New England sports fan, and always lit up the room with his humor and smile. He spent much of his spare time doing what he loved the most, enjoying life with his son William and fiancé Nicole.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday March 4th from 4-7 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, with a service to follow at 7 PM. Friends and Family are invited join a Celebration of Life in Derek’s honor on Friday March 6th at 6 PM at the American Legion, 33 Legion Pkwy in Whitman.
