WAYLAND: Elaine B. (Matton) Montague, 90, died peacefully and comfortably on February 23, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Manor following a brief illness.
She was born in Andover on June 9, 1929 the daughter of the late Fabien Matton and Cora (Ratte) Matton.
Elaine was the loving and devoted wife for 65 years of the late Paul Gillis Montague who died on June 3, 2019.
She was the sister of Joan Martins of Mantua, New Jersey and the late Jeannette McNamara; Raymond Matton and James Matton.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Bernadine Matton of Methuen, Theresa Montague Zaccagnini of Duxbury and Anne Montague of Brighton. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and dear friends.
Elaine and Paul had been residents of Wayland for over 50 years. She spent her formative years in Andover on the family farm where she learned her love of gardening and being outdoors. Following her marriage to Paul, she spent 35 years with Hewlett Packard as an Administrative Assistant.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery, walking with “the neighborhood ladies” and making beautiful gifts for her family and friends. She loved to design and sew American Girl doll clothing and gifted them to her great nieces and neighborhood girls who were an extension of her family. She also donated many of her American Girl doll items to the annual St. Patrick’s Manor annual fair. Elaine also knitted many blankets and hats for the new babies at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford. She will be fondly remembered by her family, friends and neighbors.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Wayland.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Good Shepherd Parish at ST. ZEPHERIN CHURCH, 99 Main St (Rt. 27), Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Montague family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
