Michael Joseph Desmond, 69, of Derry, NH, died Wednesday February 19, 2020, in his home. He was born in Weymouth, MA on June 24, 1950, a son of John and Doris (Gerry) Desmond. Michael proudly served in the U.S Army during the Vietnam war and later became a member of the ASA and the National Intelligence Service. Michael began his professional career in hotel and restaurant management, working with some of the finest chefs around the world, later becoming self-employed and worked in everything from real estate to currency trading. Full of adventure, he traveled extensively around the world for work and pleasure.
Michael had a tremendous impact on many lives, serving as a friend, role model, and mentor. In addition to his great sense of humor, Michael will be remembered as a master storyteller. Known for his "Mac Giver" personality, Michael was the go-to person that everyone went to for answers no matter the problem. Thanks to his many gifts and never the shy type, he quickly acquired friends and maintained those friendships throughout his life. His compassion was not limited to friends; his love for nature and animals was unparalleled.
He is survived by his beloved wife, who he has spent 42 loving years with, Dolores (Pestana) Desmond; brother, Kevin P. Desmond of Concord, NH and several nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 9:00am to 11:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Funeral services followed at 11:00am in the funeral home. The burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, East Derry.
